Case Studies

Performance investigations: the problem, the diagnosis, the reported result, and what the evidence supports.

Performance and reliability

Reported worst-case latency: approximately 2 s → 0.2 s after a one-line fix. The async path blocked a thread pool outside the existing measurements; the retrospective keeps the original account’s measurement limits visible.

Reported certificate-validation latency: approximately 450 ms → 45 ms. Profiling exposed a caching gap in a desktop workflow. The full benchmark setup and correctness checks are not provided in the account.

Approximately 30,000 concurrent connections were established with low request frequency and reported memory pressure. This experiment explores connection limits; the count does not establish sustained useful-work capacity.

Measured lab

  • Same Query, More Rows: A PostgreSQL Lab
  • Generated data · 1,620 recorded queries across three data sizes. Includes charts, raw timings, query plans and reproduction scripts, with the limits of this local experiment stated.
